Purple Club is a UK charity founded in 2006 specifically to address the appalling outcomes affecting the UK’s Looked after Children (children in the care of the state) and those who are on the edge of care.
Purple Club and its partners are working together to incorporate a combined learning solution for Looked After, Cared-For and Excluded children.
There are in excess of 70,000 children in England alone who fall into the looked after category with an additional 325,000 on the “at risk” register. Sadly, 2.5 million of the most disadvantaged school children in the UK are still living on the edge of our digital society with home access to a computer and the internet a seemingly inaccessible dream. Purple Club aims to reduce this digital divide to ensure that all children have access to learning and technology at home or at school. We aim to be their learning partner for life.
Purple club is driven by a passion to see disadvantaged children flourish. This will be achieved by equipping some of our finest teachers with ground breaking technology to deliver safe and secure 24/7 learning to children. The vision is that by 2015, a significant number of ‘Looked-After’ children will be happy and functional members of society.
Our mission is to work through schools and Local Authorities to achieve the following objectives:
- •Help children to achieve 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE
- •Assist children to enter Further and Higher Education.
- •Reduce levels of homelessness, crime and teenage pregnancy.
In order for us to fully succeed with this project, we need to provide disadvantaged children with a netbook or a laptop. All monies donated will also fund the technology to allow these children to learn remotely and therefore should any child be moved to a different location, Purple Club continues to be their learning partner for life. Access to our learning platform couldn’t be easier. As all the applications and content are web-based and fully interactive, the system allows for any device from traditional PC to mobile to thin client to connect to it. It delivers this information within a totally protected environment. Each child is also assigned a teacher/mentor who is able to assist in a manner of ways. We connect skilled teachers and like-minded individuals, allowing them a chance to flourish in life. Purple Club works with Schools, Local Authorities, Advanced Skills Teachers, Children Services and Children’s Charities to address the identified needs of this vulnerable group.
Purple Club believes that all children can achieve even in the most complex of environments and that providing a high quality education is vital for a fair society that affords every child the full range of opportunities.
The charities administrative costs are minimal as so many of our members offer their time for free.
Your donation can help us to improve the lives of these children in the UK. We truly believe that charity begins at home.
Thank you
